Summary – AFP 2017 Strategic Planning Process Results

 

BACKGROUND - By 2022, AFP – Greater Houston Chapter will:

1. Elevate the Fundraising profession

2. Inspire exceptional fundraisers

3. Advance philanthropic giving

 

CORE VALUES:  Service; Leadership; Professionalism; Education; Diversity

 

CORE PURPOSE:   AFP-GHC inspires fundraisers to be exceptional

 

VISION:  The BHAG (big hairy, audacious goal) - by 2023, AFP – Greater Houston Chapter will:

· Elevate the fundraising profession

· Inspire exceptional fundraisers

· Advance philanthropic giving

 

STRATEGIC ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED – SMART goals to be executed

 

Programming

· Goal 1:  by 2022, AFP-GHC will provide exceptional programming announced to its members for the upcoming year by the end of the previous calendar year

o Education committee to pull together 15 CDOs and next-gen fundraisers to engage speakers/topics for months were there isn’t any (Anne/Debbie)

· Goal 2:  by 2022, Chief Development Officers in the greater Houston areas will be active AFP-GHC members who will champion the benefits of membership and those in leadership roles will represent 20% of the Chapter’s membership.

 

Leadership Development

· Goal 3:  By 2022, AFT-GHC will consistently offer and integrate exceptional programming and leadership formation that meets the needs of its constituents.

o   Email leaders attending to speak with members and people at tables to engage them and talk up AFP (Debbie)

o   Host affinity tables at luncheons so new people have something to discuss with tablemates (Heather)

 

Marketing

· Goal 4:  by 2022, AFP-GHC will tenaciously promote membership benefits to a diverse audience of fundraising professionals and philanthropists in greater Houston.

o   Call someone who hasn’t been in two years and is a member to invite to upcoming educational session (Anne)

o   Draw business cards after luncheon for free session (Anne)

o   Reach out to those who’ve attended previously and aren’t members to invite to an upcoming meeting – an idea to engage advanced professionals (Barbara)

o   Build a volunteer database to track areas of interest for members, as well as maintain contact with those who need to volunteer for a scholarship requirement (Sara/Kristen/Heather)

·  Goal 5:  by 2022, AFP-GHC will provide the premier online platform for philanthropic resources in Houston.

o   Share 2018 communications plan with committee (Melissa)

o   Consider contacting DC chapter since they are using the new website being rolled out for chapters by IHQ (Sara)

 

Accessibility

· Goal 6:  by 2022, AFP-GHC will have an organizational leadership and volunteer management model that can readily support the expansive membership and programming of the Chapter.

· Goal 7:  by 2022, AFP-GHC will have an organizational leadership and volunteer management model that can readily support the expansive membership and programming of the Chapter.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY AND IMPLEMENTATION

Approved by the Board of Directors, the Strategic Plan will now move into the five-year implementation process.  A Change Management Committee, comprised of board members and other members, will champion the plan implementation and help with the development of action plans that will be put into place during the next one to five years.
