2019 Ask the Experts

“Creating Collaborative Communities”

Friday, June 7, 2019

I hope you are planning on joining us at Ask the Experts this year on Friday, June 7th at the Houston Community College’s West Houston Institute campus!

This annual day of fundraising education for nonprofit fundraising leadership, staff, volunteers and board members is presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Greater Houston Chapter to hone the skills and enhance the professional development of our nonprofit leadership, staff, volunteers and board members so that we may continue to improve our communities and enhance the quality of life in the Houston region.

What began 25 years ago has evolved into one of the largest full day fundraising conferences in Houston, bringing together like-minded individuals from across the nonprofit fundraising community. Our conference will convene an amazing cross-section of 300-350 representatives from over 250 area nonprofit and community organizations. This conference strives not only to teach best practices of nonprofit development, but also to inspire our attendees to be visionary leaders.

Last year, in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, our conference centered around the theme of building resilient communities and maintaining our focus in the midst of recovery efforts. This year, having emerged from the crisis, we are able to look ahead and have chosen the theme “Creating Collaborative Communities”. The work done within communities and often through nonprofits after Hurricane Harvey reminded us of the power of bringing communities together. In our diverse city, we would like to focus on the vision of a cohesive nonprofit philanthropic community and the collaboration that can take place within nonprofits, between nonprofits, and through a commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and access in our communities.

In keeping with the theme, we have chosen as our venue the new Houston Community College’s West Houston Institute Campus at 2811 Hayes Road, Houston, TX 77082. HCC serves the Houston region through its fifteen centers of excellence and has been recognized for its reflection of the diverse demographics of its student body and its role as a powerful driver of economic development in our region. The West Houston Institute was designed to serve as a center of innovation. Utilizing forward thinking educational concepts, it is redefining learning spaces and pathways to authentic student learning. It will serve as the perfect setting for our day of education on an immersive, elevated platform to see, experience, collaborate, create and learn.

The day will include keynote sessions with Jamey Rootes of the Houston Texans and Steve Maislin of the Greater Houston Community Foundation and will continue with breakout sessions on topics like building a cohesive team, collaboration between gift officers within an organization and how it leads to meaningful connections with your donors, and how to make a collective impact through programs that bring nonprofits with complementary missions together.

We are so excited with the program this year and we hope see you there on Friday, June 7th!
