 A&M Collegiate AFP Chapter

Howdy, all the way from College Station. My name is Abby Trahan and I am serving as the President for the AFP Collegiate Chapter at Texas A&M University for the next academic year. I am currently earning my Masters in Public Service and Administration (MPSA) at the Bush School of Government and Public Service with a focus in Nonprofit Management. I am interested in working as a fundraiser in a development office for the social sector.

Receiving the education of the nonprofit sector has been crucial for providing the knowledge for me to be prepared to enter into the work force, but mere academics is not enough. This past March I had the opportunity to attend AFP ICON in San Antonio, TX. This experience was phenomenal, because it showed me what fundraising is like in practice. I had the opportunity to learn about how to find a mentor in this career field, which will be a great asset when I enter the sector next year. By far AFP has opened doors of learning that I will be eternally grateful for learning this at such an early stage in my professional development.

Additionally, I would like to introduce the rest of the AFP Executive team from Texas A&M University. On the far left, Joseph Byrum is an MPSA student who is focusing in nonprofit management and community development and eventually hopes to work in Tyler, TX after graduation. Second on the left is Emily Tucker who is an MPSA student who is interested in Nonprofit Management and hope to work in fundraising or event coordinating after graduation. In the middle, is myself, Abby Trahan. To my right is Mary Huddleston, who is an MPSA student focusing in Nonprofit Management and wants to eventually work as a development officer in higher education. The farthest to the right, Will Horton is an MPSA student studying Public Management who is interested in working in university development, and politics at the state level. We look forward to engage with the Greater Houston Chapter and hope to meet some of you soon! Thanks and Gig ‘em!
