Asking yourself why you should attend the 2018 Ask The Experts Conference? Hear from our 2018 ATE Chair, Beth Wilson!

First, why should I attend this conference?

Mainly because it is convenient and local. What is better than meeting peers in your own backyard and having opportunities to network with professionals who understand what you do. You will find at the conference all levels of experience and shop sizes – entry level development professionals to seasoned; 1 person shop to an organization that has 100+ on staff. Through all of this, there is so much to be gained by the experience of attending.

How do I convince my supervisor to let me take the day to attend?

By you attending, they are investing in their organization and allowing you an opportunity to seek new and better ways to do your job or bring on new talent that may help further the mission. For such a nominal investment, they will have a tremendous ROI by you attending the variety of sessions that will be offered. Remember you are an asset to the organization and we all need a little maintenance and tuning up some times.

What sessions should I attend?

Read the variety of sessions offered and number the ones that appeal to you in order of relevancy before you get there. The sessions will have an indication to who the audience is, which will help you in your selection. Always keep in mind that if you attend a session and you do not feel it is applicable to you; then go to your next choice. You are there to learn and gain nuggets of information to take back to your job. This opportunity is for you to grow your skills and your network of resources. Check out the sessions on the event page, by clicking here.

Will I have time to meet others who are attending?

Yes, there is time built in the morning, along with breaks throughout the day, lunch, and a reception immediately following the last session. This will give you time to interact with others who are attending. We will be providing name badges that will include their organization as well, so you can quickly identify someone you may want to meet. Remember to bring many business cards to share.

What if it's not in my budget?

We have a volunteer rate! For just $25 and little bit of work, you can still enjoy the conference. Our Volunteer Co-Chairs are great about ensuring you're at the sessions you don't want to miss. Plus, you're able to give back to this conference, which gives so much to our profession. Additionally, we are offering scholarships! Learn more about our scholarship process here.

We hope you will be joining us on Friday, June 15 from 8 am – 4:30pm for this year’s Ask the Experts Conference hosted at the Houston Food Bank.
