A Note From Dawn Koenning, 2017 AFP-Greater Houston Chapter President
Thursday, January 5, 2017
Happy New Year! The 2017 Board of Directors is looking forward to an exciting year for the Association of Fundraising Professionals - Greater Houston Chapter. Our Immediate Past President, Ronnie Hagerty and the 2016 Board of Directors certainly raised the bar for our chapter and paved the way for an extraordinary year ahead.
As the 2017 AFP-GHC President, I enthusiastically come into this role after having served on the AFP Board from 2004 to 2011 and from 2015 to 2016. During my Board service, I served as chair of various committees such as Membership and Government Relations, and as National Philanthropy Day® Awards Luncheon Chair in 2007 and in 2014, and as NPD Sponsorship Chair from 2008 through 2016. My professional career in fundraising has been diverse, starting with political fundraising and events and moving into the high-stakes arena of major gift solicitations and campaign consulting. As an Of Counsel Consultant with Dini Spheris, I sharpened my strategic consulting skills with a broad range of clients across Texas having served as a Major Gift Officer in healthcare philanthropy at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital. As the Founder and President of Clarity Consultants, LLC, a boutique fundraising consulting firm, I also serve as the Sr. Director of Development at St. Mary's Catholic Center at Texas A&M University.
My goal as President of AFP-GHC is to increase our impact in our profession while continuing to foster ethical and effective fundraising. I am especially excited about the Strategic Planning process we are in the midst of and look forward to adopting a new strategic plan in 2017 that will propel us into the future of philanthropy and better address the needs of our chapter.
We encourage you all to make the most of your membership with AFP-GHC by attending our monthly educational programs, Ask the Experts, National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon, Best Boards, webinars, and mixers. Also, consider joining a committee to engage even more in our profession. On behalf of the 2017 Board of Directors, we look forward to learning and growing with you in our profession this year.
